The Bus Pass Buskers

The Bus Pass Buskers - ‘an up and coming band of youngsters, playing Skiffle, Blues & Country & Western songs throughout South Yorkshire’.

We have recently been in contact with Stephen Brearley a member of The Bus Pass Buskers.  Stephen has been kind enough to pass on a few details about the unusual demographic constitution of his group and some thoughts about the club situation.

“We THE BUS PASS BUSKERS play as many clubs as we can, but is so sad that they have and are, falling victim to the changing times in which we live.   As our name implies we are all well past retirement age (Av age 68) we are a 5 piece band playing Skiffle, Blues, Country n Western. And a little Rock n Roll from the late 50's.

We play to entertain others, but also because we love what we do.. Two of us have been together over many years (53 actually) and played many clubs that sadly no longer exist.  As Steve Brearley and the Planets, we played all over, in some great WMC, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley Leeds, Nottingham, and always at Christmas Eve/New Year could be found at Wadsley Bridge or the wonderful Dial House!!!  Happy days.

It is our endeavour to constantly work on our act and to give good value. Hopefully we will play many more clubs yet. As well as the Working Men’s Clubs we play Hotels, Dinners, Birthday Parties, Golden Weddings,  Retirement Celebrations, Office Parties and Year End functions.’

Club Historians would like to mention the charitable work undertaken by the band and the contributions they have made to the Help For Heroes organisation.

Stephen and the guys of The Bus Pass Buskers have certainly kept abreast of technology with a web presence and Facebook - page not to mention YouTube.
