Mark Ellis

Mark Ellis

Mark Ellis, a club performer from Normanton, West Yorkshire, has kindly agreed to share some his fabulous collection of club photos and stories which he has collected over the years.  He's also enlisting his pals, together with his mum and dad, in an effort to collect even more for us from the clubs and clubgoers around the North of England.

We've heard that Mark's mum is quite an outgoing character who is very likely to interrogate complete strangers - so if you're out and about in their area and a lady starts asking you questions please do your best.

We believe that Mark's dad has an endless source of stories, having been on the circuit for most of his life.  We certainly look forward to seeing them.

Take a look through Mark's extensive club photo gallery and see if your club is there.  At the moment Mark is looking out some stories for us to use, so there'll be more on that pretty soon.

Thanks to Mark, his family and friends.

Club Notes

Bilton WMC, Skipton Road, Harrogate HG1 4LL, 014230504345
This used to be a boys school.  The original club was a terraced house on Cecil Street which was situated at the back of the school  The school was bought in 1932 and then became Bilton WMC.  Housing ten empty rooms upstairs the club is a fair size.

Carlton in Lindrick WMC, Knaton Road, Carlton in Lindrick, Worksop S81 9HH 01909 730356
The club was built on land purchased from the coal board next to the community of South Carlton.  The Tap Room was opened in 1956, the concert room was added later and opened in 1968 with the Games Room being added in 1976.  The Games Room houses two snooker tables which were purchased from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield for £1500.  One of the tables was used when Terry Griffiths won the world snooker championship in 1979 and the table carries a plaque commemorating this.
